Shira Balam

Person-centred Counselling, Psychotherapist

Brief Bio
I am a person-centred humanistic counsellor and psychotherapist, and Mindfulness Practitioner working with adults and young people.

I am passionate about supporting those I work with, to process and explore the important things that are happening in their lives.  It can often be difficult to talk to those close to us about what is happening and how we are feeling.  I provide an empathic, non-judgemental and compassionate therapeutic space for you to talk about your feelings, thoughts and experiences.

I have experience of working in schools, third-sector organisations and private practice.

Type of Therapy Offered

  • Humanistic – person-centred
  • Talking therapy
  • Creative Therapy
  • Solution-Based Therapy.
  • Mindfulness Therapy – I can provide mindfulness-based therapy either on its own or incorporated into your sessions.

Approach
As a Person-Centred therapist, I give you the freedom to talk about anything without an agenda.  I work with what you bring to the therapeutic space and you are not limited to any specific area or issue.  I will help you develop your own goals, self-awareness, self-acceptance and self-trust, and I tailor my work to your needs. I often use creative techniques such as drawing and music to help those I am working with explore what is happening to them.

As a qualified mindfulness practitioner, I can incorporate mindfulness into my counselling work to help support those with anxiety, depression and stress.

For those seeking mindfulness sessions only I am able to provide a block of sessions.  I also work with organisations to provide mindfulness to their staff either via stand-alone workshops or a set number of sessions.

I have extensive experience of working with anxiety, depression, stress, bereavement, self-identity and sexuality, and health issues including cancer, chronic illnesses and mental health conditions.
