Marlene du Plessis
Having grown up in South Africa, I’ve developed a deep appreciation for the diverse and vibrant community of this nation. Upon moving to the UK in 2020, I carry with me the wealth of experiences gained form my time in this rainbow nation.
As a Logotherapist and Person-Centred Counsellor/Psychotherapist, with specialised training in nature-based interventions, my transition to the UK necessitated a shift from the outdoor therapy room to indoor settings. Despite this change, my therapeutic approach remains consistent, characterised by a holistic, integrative, and solution-focused method, all viewed through a trauma-sensitive lens.
In guiding you through the exploration of aspects of your life that you choose to address in counselling of psychotherapy, I facilitate a process that allows you to gain a deeper understanding of yourself and your situation at your own pace and in your own time.
Rather than asking “what is wrong with you?”, my focus lies in understanding “what’s happened to you?”.
This perspective encourages a compassionate exploration of your experiences and contributes to a greater awareness of your personal journey.
Approach
Each of our narratives is distinctive, shaped by our lived encounters, emotions, and feelings – a personalised reality that defines us. Frequently, the experiences, coupled with the ‘messages’ imbibed since childhood, can disrupt our perception and experience of the Self, necessitating a process of ‘re-storied’ reconstruction for a more meaningful life.
Grounded in a strong belief in science, particularly neurobiopsychology, my methodologies are founded on evidence-based principles.
I tailor sessions to meet your specific needs, incorporate a diverse range of modalities such as CBT, EMDR, Bilateral Stimulation, Creative and Experiential approaches, and many more.
Type of Therapy offered.
