Approach

I have been working with individuals and couples for over 20 years helping them to find a way to make sense of their struggles. My passion is seeing how therapy and coaching can really transform difficult situations, leaving clients more conscious and joyful.

When working with couples, Imago Relationship Therapy offers a wonderful way of making sense of the struggle that couples may be experiencing. The struggle is normally part of the normal stage that most couples go through. Fortunately there is a way to make sense of the difficulties and Imago therapy and coaching sessions provide a safe space to understand and move through the pain. This is done in a positive, safe way that normally leaves couples feeling more understood, connected and joyful.

Individual work with clients depends on what each person needs, which often emerges from the first few sessions. Then an appropriate way forward is discussed with the individual. CBT, psychotherapy, mindfulness, as well as spiritual teachings, may all be part of the journey that allows clients to find more awareness, acceptance, compassion and joy.

My own background, life experiences, spiritual teachings, mindfulness practices and other ways of becoming more conscious, play a part in my approach when working with individuals and couples.

Who I work with

It’s mainly adults and couples that I work with. Many individuals contact me asking for CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy) which I enjoying working with. Others like a more integrative approach where I draw on my background in psychotherapy, counselling, mindfulness and various spiritual teachings.

Many individuals may be struggling with fear, anxiety, stress or worry as well as difficulties managing their mood and other feelings.

Couples that come for therapy or coaching are normally stuck, often in the ‘power struggle’ phase. They may have been experiencing pain for quite some time where they have not felt safe, connected and joyful in their relationship for a long time.

Further Information

My background is in social work where I trained in South Africa as a social worker. Social work in South Africa involved lots of counselling, group work as well as working out in the community which was very meaningful and enjoyable.

Social work provided a good foundation for all my other training and experience that followed that. This involved further training in psychotherapy & counselling, CBT, mindfulness, various spiritual teachings & couple therapy.

I also work a few hours a week on the NHS supervising trainees and qualified mental health practitioners. Before working in private practice I worked full time on the NHS in psychology services as well as in various private hospitals including The Priory Hospital Altrincham.

I have completed the following academic qualifications: BA Hons, MA (Psychotherapy), ADIP (Psychotherapy), and a PGDip (CBT).

I am a registered member of the following organisations: UKCP, BABCP, HCPC, Imago International and a graduate member of the BPS.
