Couples therapy or couples counselling, is a type of talking therapy. This is where couple therapists provide a caring, supportive and compassionate space for you and your partner.

Do you feel this way?

  • Pandemic-anxiety causing friction between you?
  • Lockdown stopping you having ‘space’?
  • Getting frustrated but not getting resolution?
  • Arguments become more frequent? And over little things?
  • Not feeling understood by your partner?
  • Is your relationship stale?
  • Do you feel you and your partner are living different lives in the same home?
  • Not sure if you want to stay in your relationship?

Don’t worry!

It’s common to struggle with relationships.

  • Relationship difficulties are often no one’s fault.
  • All couples encounter a power struggle phase at some point.
  • Most couples have times when they feel frustrated, angry, hurt or disillusioned.
  • This is your chance to improve your relationship – to be happy, satisfied and content.

How do you know Couple Therapy is for you?

Do you want to regain that sense of excitement and romance you had at the start of your relationship? Couple therapy can work for any couple.

Whether a new couple or one that has been together for many years, there is much to learn. And many benefits to gain.

Sadly, some couples only seek therapy when their relationship has very serious issues affecting it. These may be problems like infidelity, distrust, or addiction. Some may think that therapy is their last chance before ending the relationship.

This should not be the case. In any relationship, work is involved. And for the relationship to be successful, that work should not be overlooked. This should not be viewed as a problem or a failure.

Couples therapy or couple counselling can be the catalyst that allows this work to be done in a warm and caring environment. It can treat a wide variety of relational issues. Or it can improve the deep satisfaction that comes from a loving relationship.

In other words, couple therapy can benefit any two individuals who want to be closer to each other.

How can Couple Therapy work for YOU

Sadly, some couples view problems in their relationship too difficult to fix. Or they are too embarrassed to discuss them with each other – or with someone else.

They may only seek help when the damage has been done. The close emotional bonds that were made at the beginning of the relationship have been frayed by time. Behaviour patterns and ways of talking to each other have changed. Perhaps distrust or resentment has developed quietly.

Do not worry! Couple therapy can help resolve even problems that have developed over a long period. More time may be required to regain the joy you had at first. But with commitment from both partners, it can be regained.

Couple therapy helps couples explore, recognize, and resolve frustrations and difficulties – even deep-seated ones. By doing so, you can improve your relationship and interactions, leaving you feeling more connected and joyful.

You can do so either via on-line couples therapy or in person at our conveniently located Prestwich Holistic Centre in Manchester.

Imago Relationship Therapy

Imago Relationship Therapy is designed to help you and your partner enrich your relationship. This type of therapy enables you both to share your appreciations with each daily. You will discover and understand the underlying causes of frustrations in your relationship. And you will learn simple but effective techniques to enhance that relationship.

The basis of the Imago Dialogue process is a tried and tested way of positively communicating thoughts and feelings with each other. This type of relationship counselling establishes a safe ‘space’. Couples are enabled, in this safe ‘space’ and a calm environment, to share thoughts and feelings in a positive atmosphere. There is a focus on a 'zero negativity' zone. This same 'zero negativity' focus is developed to be part of the couples’ everyday life.

This relationship therapy has successfully benefited thousands of couples around the world. Find out more about this type of revolutionary type of couple counselling by contacting us at Prestwich Holistic Therapy Centre, Manchester.

Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy

Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) is a form of therapy that focuses on underlying emotions. It explores their effect on interactions within a relationship. Emotions are linked to our basic needs and are vital for building balanced relationships. They are the key to who we are and how we react. Emotions and their importance are central to EFT.

Couples are helped to understand themselves and their partner better. That makes it easier for them to interact positively with one another (and others). Couples can enjoy deeper emotional bonds. They can do so with the confidence that these bonds are durable despite the increasing pressures of modern society.

EFT typically consists of three steps:

  1. Identify negative emotions and the resulting interactions within the relationship.
  2. Restructure the interactions so the couple learns to be more open and responsive to each other. Positive emotions replace the negative.
  3. Identification of why and how the negative emotions arose. See how step 2 resolved these and develop paths to resolve issues before they become negative emotions.
